BOX-OFFICE REPORT

Shrek Forever After topped the box office in its debut weekend, earning $71.3 million. That's actually the worst opening for a Shrek sequel. The second and third installments each made more than $100 million.

  • The weekend's other new release, MacGruber, failed to make the Top 5. The Saturday Night Live sketch turned action movie earned $4.1 million, landing in sixth.
  • Last weekend's number-one movie, Iron Man 2, dropped to second with $26.6 million. The superhero flick has made $251.3 million in three weeks.
  • Robin Hood was third with $18.7 million.
  • Letters to Juliet was fourth with $9.1 million.
  • And Just Wright was fifth with $4.2 million.


LINDSAY LOHAN IS BACK IN THE U.S.

The LiLo has landed.

Lindsay Lohan arrived in L.A. Saturday night after a drama-filled trip to Cannes, France. Linds, who was partying overseas last week as a warrant for her arrest was issued and then rescinded, is due in court this morning. The judge will determine if she violated her probation in a 2007 DUI conviction. She faces 180 days in jail.

In other Lindsay drama, TMZ published a photo of the actress at an after-hours party in Cannes with a couple of friends and some lines of white powder in the foreground. After seeing the pic, she told Radar Online, "That's a set up. That's so untrue."


JESSE JAMES CRIES LIKE A BABY IN INTERVIEW

Jesse James broke down during his interview with Nightline in which he admitted to cheating and opened up about his time in rehab and losing the love of his life. He told ABC's Vicki Marbey, "I took a pretty amazing life and marriage and threw it away."

He said the bad publicity has made him the "most hated man in the world now." And when asked if he cheated on Sandra Bullock, he said, "Yup."

The interview airs tomorrow night on ABC.


VAL KILMER PROUD OF MACGRUBER

Val Kilmer has no illusions about the quality of MacGruber. In fact, he loves the crap he helped to churn out.

In an interview, Kilmer, who plays the villain in the comedy, says, "I'm proud of how bad this film is. In fact, I can't believe I just called it a film. It's a two-hour skit." He adds, "The writers challenged each other to be as vile as possible, and they succeeded." MacGruber earned $4.1 million at the weekend box office, landing in sixth.

PAULA ABDUL TO RETURN TO IDOL THEN GOT TO DANCE

Paula Abdul is returning to American Idol...but for only one show. Paula will help say goodbye to Simon Cowell on Wednesday's American Idol finale, People magazine reports. Simon's leaving Idol to head up The X Factor while Paula will resurface as the lead judge, executive producer, creative partner, mentor and coach on CBS's new series Got to Dance, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

REAL HOUSEWIFE SAYS SHE'S NOT REAL CRAZY

Kelly Bensimon wants people to know she's not crazy after she blew up at her Real Housewives of New York City co-stars on Thursday's episode. She tells People magazine, "It was a nervous breakthrough. I learned don't do it. Don't be around people who don't like you." Kelly says the meltdown came after she was systematically bullied by her co-stars while they were vacationing on a yacht.
