Ottumwan Charged with Armed Robbery

On February 14, 2012, the Ottumwa Police Department began an investigation into an armed robbery of a fifteen-year-old male that was reported to have occurred on February 13th in the 1000 Block of Hackberry Street in Ottumwa.  On February 16th, police officers executed a search warrant at 920 Ogden and seized a handgun believed to be used during the robbery along with a substance believed to be marijuana and drug paraphernalia.  As a result of the investigation, the following person was arrested on the 16th and charged with Robbery in the 1st Degree:

Joel Enrique Herrarte, Jr.

16440 Highway 34, Lot #109

Ottumwa, Iowa

18 Years Old 

Robbery in the 1st Degree is a violation of Chapter 711.1 of the Code of Iowa and is a Class “B” Felony.  Herrarte was transported to the Wapello County Jail where he is being held with bond set at $50,000.00.
